Introduced in 1962, the 5513 model represents one of the milestones in the history of the Rolex Submariner. Thanks to production that continued until 1989, it has become one of the brand’s longest-running and most celebrated models, earning a prominent role in the international collecting scene.
Its fame extends beyond the world of watchmaking: the model is universally recognized for having been worn by Roger Moore, in the role of James Bond, in the film *Live and Let Die*, helping to cement its status as a true icon.
The example presented here belongs to the first production phase and retains the prized “gilt” dial, characterized by gold graphics embossed on the black lacquered surface. It also features the sought-after “meters first” configuration, in which depth is indicated with meters preceding feet—a distinctive detail of the early series and particularly prized by connoisseurs.
Of particular interest is the presence of the original bezel insert featuring the “Long 5” design—a name given to the distinctive elongated shape of the number “5.” The survival of this component—which is often replaced during maintenance over the decades—is of great significance to collectors and confirms the watch’s high degree of authenticity.
The watch is also equipped with an Oyster bracelet, reference 7206/80, preserved in excellent condition and perfectly consistent with its period of manufacture.
The large luminescent hour markers, commonly referred to as “pallettoni,” have developed a beautiful, deep honey-colored patina over time, which harmonizes perfectly with the gold lettering on the dial. The overall effect creates a chromatic balance of rare elegance and lends the watch an authentic charm—qualities that are increasingly sought after among collectors of vintage Submariners.
